Naples Day 4 – A Sunny Farewell

Our Final Day in Naples: Seaside Views and City Strolls

Our final day in Naples began with a stroke of luck—our Airbnb host kindly let us keep our luggage in the room until late afternoon, giving us more time to explore. It was another sunny day, and we decided to head to the seaside.

However, navigating Naples’ public transportation on a Sunday was quite the challenge. We waited over half an hour for a bus that never arrived, making us wish we had just walked. Eventually, we reached Castel dell’Ovo, which was under renovation. While we couldn’t go inside, the exterior walls were still stunning, standing as a testament to Naples’ rich history. From there, we strolled along the seaside promenade, soaking in the breathtaking views of the bay and the majestic Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

For lunch, we chose a seafood restaurant by the name of Donna Luisella, situated along the waterfront. The food was exceptionally fresh, with dishes that perfectly captured the essence of Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant itself was charming, but we quickly learned that securing a window table with a sea view requires an advance reservation.:)

In the afternoon, we took a leisurely walk through Chiaia Park, enjoying its peaceful greenery. Our stroll continued into the Chiaia district, a trendy neighborhood filled with stylish boutiques and cozy cafés.

Eventually, we made our way to Toledo Metro Station, often hailed as one of the most beautiful metro stations in Europe. Designed by Spanish architect Óscar Tusquets Blanca, the station features a stunning “Light and Water” theme, with LED displays and intricate mosaics that create the illusion of descending into an underwater world. Sadly, when we arrived, the LED lights appeared to be turned off, leaving the station less impressive than anticipated.

The streets surrounding Toledo were bustling with people. It was incredible to see so many locals out enjoying their Sunday, giving the city an energetic and vibrant vibe. After navigating through the lively crowds, we took the metro back to our Airbnb, collected our luggage, and grabbed a taxi to the airport to conclude our trip.

This journey to Naples was a mix of surprises—both good and bad—history, architecture, and wonderful food. It left us with memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime, and perhaps, a reason to return. Ciao, Napoli! Until next time.
